Kerala's Harvest Festival
Once the monsoons begin to recede, the festive season goes into fast-forward mode bringing the year to a close before we realise it.
The wonder of Windmills is that we get to celebrate diverse cultures in their authentic form. Over the years we have volunteered and winged our way into organising festivals from different parts of the country. Someone takes it on and others jump in to help, building up community spirit in a genial manner.
This weekend we got to appreciate the essence of Onam. Elegant white and gold kasavu sarees, ebullience of festivity, mellifluous sounds, graceful dances, the fragrance of pokalam and delicious aroma of scrumptious sadhya served on banana leaves.
The entire panorama of Onam was enacted to perfection. The Rain Gods decided to call it day else we could have even had the snake boat race in the Central lawn to complete traditional festivities. :)

Onam is such an aesthetically beautiful festival and Windmillers take it to another level altogether! We land up for the event in all our festive finery, so more often than not, the hours spent in obtaining the flowers, in decoration, in dance practice and meticulous organization is overlooked. Not this time.
This year we take you behind the scenes to showcase the effort and the artistry that provided us the grand backdrop for the festivities. Sit back and let’s appreciate it together……

To the many volunteers who supported this year's Onam celebration.
The success of these events depends on the participation of individuals from within our community. If you have lived at Windmills for 6 years or for 6 months and have a special talent, skill, or time to offer, we encourage you to volunteer for the next event. New residents are especially welcome; it's a great way to get to know your neighbors and celebrate a special event in the life of our community.
