A WINDMILLS CHRISTMAS
2O24

Cover.jpg

December never fails to warm the cockles of one’s heart…. Festivity is at its peak and one is at the start of the wind-down to the year.

This December I was able to vicariously enjoy the Christmas celebrations at Windmills thanks to social media and the myriad of shared photos.

It seems that the Christmas party turned out to be a varied celebration of both the spirit of the holiday & of our community.

It was a festive stage setting from the elaborate carnival tents to the lights strung May-pole fashion. The decor & the effervescent spirit of the occasion created a perfect back drop for the choir.  Hats off to the organisers who encouraged enthusiastic participants of all ages to practice daily.  The result was plain to see & the community sang along, creating a jubilant atmosphere that will be remembered with fondness.

An equal amount of effort was put in getting various NGO stalls to sell artisan goods & spread awareness for worthy causes.  The community children were treated to an art work shop where they learnt to make ornaments & greeting cards.  Talented resident bakers chipped in selling delectable goodies, ranging from cookies & cakes to lasagna & kombucha.  Generous eats & treats were an additional offering.  Santa made a grand entrance to light the Christmas tree that was decorated with crafts the children had made.  Several lucky winners took home raffle prizes that were donated by our entrepreneurs.

All the residents, irrespective of age, contributed to make the event a resounding success. Wholehearted community participation captured the essence of Christmas…which is ‘giving’.  It is this spirit that residents, irrespective of age, contributed to make the evening a resounding & enjoyable success.

Many thanks to each one who reached out to plan, contribute or participate.

‘Giving’ of one’s time is what makes each event held at Windmills ever so special.

A fond goodbye to 2024 & a Happy New Year!!

NOTE FROM MC:

Dear organisers,

By all accounts, the Christmas celebrations held on 8th December, 2024 was a memorable one, with a large number of active participants, lots of happy practice sessions, and the colorful finale with all the stalls, variety of food and, of course, delightful performances.

You did a wonderful job of channeling all the holiday season enthusiasm into a hive of activities, leading up to the celebrations. Many of you are, by now, experienced organisers who instinctively get a handle on things to do to organise an event like this. That experience certainly helps. At the same time, it doesn't take away from the hard work and persistence still required to pull it off.

On behalf of the community, the MC would like to convey this note of appreciation to you for your outstanding efforts to organise the Christmas celebrations.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS:  If you have lived at Windmills for 6 years or for 6 months and have a special talent, skill, or time to offer, we encourage you to volunteer for the next event.  New residents are especially welcome; it's a great way to get to introduce yourself to your neighbors and celebrate a special event in the life of our community.
