CAMP-OUT 2024
The 2024 Camp-out was the 10th to be held in Windmills.
The 2024 Camp-out was the 10th to be held in Windmills. Years ago it started out as an experiment, catering to the interests of the kids…but over time it has gone to a whole new level. The community has grown exponentially and the event is as much for the grown ups as it is for the children.
There are so many varied aspects to be seen to setting up such a large event.
The organisers spent all afternoon putting up tents, tables for food items, the bbq, overseeing the lay-out, dustbins, fire extinguishers, hand washing stations, stage, screen and the fancy new sound system.
The Toddlers had their own little event in a cordoned off corner of the main lawn. They had the time of their lil lives in a colourful set-up full of toys and balloons and snacks.
The main event kicked off with a drum circle of repeated beats that resonated all around the campus and set the pace for the rest of the evening.
The ladies outdid themselves this year with an authentic well-thought-out camp-out menu that consisted of bbq, small eats, salads, drinks and dessert catering amply for both veg and non-vegetarians. The lay-out was open and spread-out, so no crowding or long queues, which was great.
Then at 8pm came the entertainment. Such a pleasant surprise to see the little ones perform like professionals, whether it was singing, playing an instrument, dancing or even stand-up comedy. They had us spell bound. The older ones decided to surprise us too with their talent, whether it was singing songs of yore or even playing the harmonica.
After which ‘Madagascar’ was screened for those who wanted to sit back and enjoy the cute movie in the freshness of the outdoors.
The camp-out ended, as it always does, on a high note with a colossal bon-fire and toasted marshmallow and chocolate sandwich s’mores which are such a treat. The kids lined up patiently for their turn before they retired to their tents or went back home.
At the end of it all, one cannot but acknowledge and appreciate the whole hearted support of PMD, Security, Craftworks and Housekeeping who have become an integral part of each event.
God bless them.
This is an annual event that one leaves for home with a warm happy feeling to be part of the large extended Windmills family.
Have a great year ahead with many more events in the offing.
