CHRISTMAS 2022
It’s a wonderful time of the year!
After a hectic action packed November we moved to warm hues of Christmas.
Festivity began with the back to back screening of two movies. ‘The Christmas Miracle’ George, a resident of Windmills acted in the movie that was set in modern day Bangalore. It was followed by arts and crafts for the kids in the cafe with goodie bags to take home too. The next day was the matinee screening of a Christmas classic ‘Its A Wonderful Life’. These movies set the mood for the big event that was to follow.
Elaborate arrangements were made to host the Annual Christmas Party in the Main Lawn. The team was on ‘On Your Marks, Get set….’ when the Rain Gods decided to play spoilsport. The remnants of the cyclone hit the city and it rained throughout the day :(
There is something to be said about ‘Santa and his elves’…it’s the spirit of giving. Since Santa couldn’t be here in person his elves went on overdrive so as not to disappoint the community. They donned raincoats and shifted the venue with all the logistics to the Club House. The Christmas team, PMD, Housekeeping and Landscaping worked till late hours in the rain to erect, among other things, a two-storey Christmas tree in the centre of the Club House. Macy’s couldn’t have done better!! Thanks to their collective effort it was a warm cosy festive evening as Christmas should be.
There was story telling, cookie decoration, a well rehearsed choir and some amazing solos followed by an array of assorted dishes for an early dinner. All in all the evening ended in high spirits.
A day of respite, and then it was time to bring Christmas to the Seniors.
The cafeteria was decorated with all hand-made sustainable decorations. Both young and old had made ornaments for over a month and donated them for the event. Small stars, wooden trees, crocheted ornaments, pressed flowers etc. It was the community’s way of expressing their love. A few kind residents drove their cars “Santa Express” around the basement to get the guests to the clubhouse.
Seniors came out in their finery to enjoy the special occasion. There was tea followed by Housie - some raucous number calling - with special prizes, and a surprise appearance of Santa! To the sound of Jingle Bells he was wheeled in on a cart with a wheelbarrow full of gifts for each one. There was a queue for individual photos with Santa, gift and tree. Then a playlist from the 60s got everyone on their feet dancing and singing to songs they were familiar with.
GREAT evening for GREAT residents!
and
a GREAT note on which to end the year!!
Joy to the world.
Seasons Greetings.

Thank you for the creativity and effort put forward by the volunteers who helped make this Christmas celebration a memorable experience. Pictured here are a few of the organizing team: Sushma, Kajal, Geetu, Apeksha, Prema, Vyshnavi, Nidhi, and Brian. Among those missing from the photo include Manasi and Nidhi Vaish who along with Prema were responsible for the elegant decor in the clubhouse. And of course Roma and Hema who helped organize the Seniors Event.

We'd also like to thank the following residents for their valuable contributions: Supriya for her storytelling magic and help with games; Abbey, Cheryl, Denise, Afsha, Parul, and Heather for making the cookie decorating a success; Tanvi Iyer for sharing her photography skills capturing the precious Santa moments; and Liz and George for bringing their movie and their performers to the unWind Theater; and all of the wonderful cooks and bakers who shared their food with us in the potluck dinner.
We'd also like to thank Rajesh and Thanuja from PMD and their landscape, electrical, and housekeeping crews for supporting the event and decorating the club house.
The success of these events depends on the participation of individuals from within our community. If you have lived at Windmills for 6 years or for 6 months and have a special talent, skill, or time to offer, we encourage you to volunteer for the next event. New residents are especially welcome; it's a great way to get to know your neighbors and celebrate a special event in the life of our community.
